Covid, “return to normal? Maybe in 2022-2023”

The return to normality with respect to the Coronavirus epidemic will take place “perhaps in 2022-2023”. This is the opinion of the president of the French Scientific Council Jean-François Delfraissy. “We will win Covid, but not immediately”, he declared speaking on Bfmtv, and announcing the probable arrival “of a new variant during the next winter”. “This virus – he explained – has the ability to mutate out of the ordinary”. The expert expects an average of 50 thousand new infections a day starting from the beginning of August. But to counter this new wave “there are no miraculous solutions”. “In a context of very large contaminations, with a much more infectious variant than the previous ones”, it is appropriate “to return to social distancing measures”, such as hand washing and the use of masks, even outdoors in the presence of a lot of people. The scientist explains that he has been vaccinated for several weeks. But – he concludes – “I continue to wear the mask when I am outside”.
