(CNN Spanish) – The twenty-second edition of the FIFA World Cup, the world’s largest football event, will be held for the first time in Qatar.
The World Cup will start on November 21 and end on December 18, 2022.
World Cup calendar
The opening match of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place on November 21, 2022 at 1:00 pm local time (05:00 am, Miami time) at the Al Bayt Stadium, a stadium with a capacity for 60,000 spectators.
The local times for the group stage matches will be at 01:00 pm, 04:00 pm, 07:00 pm and 10:00 pm; while the matches of the last day of this phase, as well as the subsequent qualifying rounds will be played simultaneously at 06:00 pm and 10:00 pm
Khalifa International Stadium will host the third-place match to be played on December 17, while the final will be played at 06:00 pm local time at Lusail Stadium before 80,000 spectators.
“In order for all teams to have enough time to recover, the group stage will last twelve days, four games will be played a day, so the schedule promises to be very exciting,” said FIFA .
FIFA has said that “the stadium and the schedule of the group stage matches of each of the days will be decided after the conclusion of the final draw, scheduled for after the qualifiers in March 2022.”
“Once the pairings are known, the possibility of assigning the best schedules depending on the television audiences and also for the fans displaced to Qatar, depending on the ideal stadium, will be evaluated,” said FIFA.
Classification
Thirty-two teams will compete in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. So far, the Qatar team is the only one qualified as the host country. The qualifiers began in 2019, but in the face of the covid-19 pandemic, the classification will not be defined until March 2022.
Tickets sale
The first tickets with associated preferential services (hospitality tickets, in English) will go on sale at the end of 2020, while the date for the sale of tickets to the general public only has not yet been announced. According to the FIFA pageTicket prices in packages are sold by game or by team and are available starting at US $ 950 and for US $ 10,750 when a package is purchased per venue.
