They denounce on video alleged “policemen dressed as civilians” armed with sticks in Havana

(CNN Spanish) – In the midst of the tension in Cuba, a new video emerges that shows several buses lined up in Havana, usually only mobilized by the government and a group of people carrying sticks while walking near the vehicles.

The images, whose exact date CNN has not confirmed, appear while the island is experiencing tension over the demonstrations against and in favor of the government of President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

CNN has previously seen situations that appear to be similar operations on the ground.

In the video, which has gone viral, a person is heard assuring that in reality, it is not ordinary citizens who are arriving on the buses. “They are all policemen,” says the person, although the men in the video are dressed in civilian clothes. CNN has not been able to verify this claim.

“Look at the amount of bats they bring, stick trunks, big stick in hand to hit hard, yes, then they say it’s the town, they brought it in a guagua (bus) to hit. Then they say that it is the town that was giving a blow ”.

The video, which lasts more than 2 minutes, does not show what happens before or after the arrival of the buses. Nor if there was any confrontation after the arrival of the group to the place.

Several international media have also shared images and testimonies about the mobilization of people supposedly related to the government carrying sticks. They cite that the events occurred in Havana and Camagüey. The media that cover what is happening in Cuba, including CNN, have been able to observe this on other occasions and that it is about rapid response actions to disperse demonstrations against the government.

On Sunday there were protests in various locations in Cuba. As of this Wednesday, more than 150 detainees or with unknown whereabouts, according to Human Rights Watch and the Cubalex human rights center, denounce that there are more than 150 detainees or disappeared.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel said Wednesday that “there are dozens of injured, the exact figure cannot be specified now. There are many wounded that are from the part of the town that tried to avoid these vandalism, from the part of the town that went to defend order, security and citizen tranquility ¨, he added.
