Over 150 bowling balls discovered under house during renovation

(CNN) – One homeowner in Michigan found quite a surprise when renovating part of his home. David Olson, 33, said he discovered more than 150 bowling balls when he demolished the concrete porch slab of his Norton Shores home.

“Before breaking something with a hammer, I was able to get one of the cinder blocks out of the side and take a look,” Olson said. “I saw a bunch of sand and half a black and blue sphere, and that’s when it intrigued me and I started brushing the sand and realized it was a bowling ball.

He pulled out a cinder block from the portico and saw a blue and black sphere.

Then he started digging deeper into the sand and noticed that there wasn’t just one ball under his steps – he discovered 15 bowling balls.

Having no idea how long the balls had been there, or how they got there, Olson called the manufacturer, Brunswick Bowling Products, to confirm that none of the materials used to make the balls had become toxic.

Olson said Brunswick confirmed they were clean and had him take pictures. Some balls had serial numbers and engravings dating back to the 1950s, the same time period that Olson’s house was built. However, it is unclear when they were placed under the house.

Only the beginning?

In all, Olson removed 158 bowling balls from under his house, and said it could be just the beginning.

“Surrounding the concrete stair is a patio made of cobblestones, and some were uneven, so I took them out … and found some more balls,” he said. “I’m 75% sure there are as many balls on the ground as there are, maybe even more.”

Olson shared the story with everyone and even started a Facebook page for bowling fans to follow the saga.

Olson said there may be more bowling balls in another area of ​​the house.

As for what you are doing with the balls, it is a bit varied. He has given away some of them, but he and his wife plan to get creative with the rest, like using them as decorative pavers in their garden.
