Record of vaccinations against Covid-19 in France after Macron’s announcements

Published on :

The French flocked to vaccination centers after Emmanuel Macron’s announcements establishing restrictions for unvaccinated people. The mark of 790,000 daily injections was crossed on Tuesday and more than 1.7 million appointments were made.

The daily vaccination record in France against Covid-19 was broken with 792,339 injections recorded at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, announced the Prime Minister, Jean Castex.

In detail, 269,776 first doses were administered on Tuesday, according to the services of Jean Castex, the day after Emmanuel Macron’s announcements to accelerate the campaign.

These figures will then be consolidated by adding the injections made after 6 pm, which will easily make it possible to exceed the bar of 800,000 injections.

In total since the start of the campaign, 36,213,362 people (or 53.7% of the total population) have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. And 28,438,478 now have a complete vaccination schedule (or 42.2% of the total population), finally indicated the Directorate General of Health.

1.7 million appointments made in less than 24 hours hours

The night before, the French had stormed the medical appointment sites. More than 1.7 million appointments were made in less than 24 hours on the Doctolib site alone, after Emmanuel Macron’s speech making compulsory the vaccination of caregivers and the like, and deciding on a health pass extended to most public places to thwart the Delta variant.

Bars, restaurants, shopping centers and transport (except local transport) will be subject to this pass (vaccination, negative test, certificate of recovery) at the beginning of August, as well as cultural places such as cinemas from July 21.

The government will however set up exemptions for 12-17 year olds, announced the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, on Tuesday evening on France 2. They will have until August 30 before having to present the health pass. A measure which aims “not to spoil the holidays of families”. Employees of establishments open to the public will also benefit from a tolerance until the same date.

Another change announced: vaccination will be recognized as complete in France, as part of the health pass, one week after the injection of the 2e dose, not two.

As many experts and politicians have demanded, vaccination will become compulsory for nursing and non-nursing staff in hospitals and retirement homes, professionals and volunteers working with the elderly, including at home, as well as firefighters and caregivers. paramedics. But not for the police and the gendarmes. They will have until September 15 to do so, under penalty of “sanctions” which may range from suspension of the employment contract, to layoff, or even dismissal.

The progression of the Delta variant is accelerating in France

The government is worried about the progression of the Delta variant, which is twice as contagious, as the number of positive cases jumped to nearly 7,000 Tuesday evening, a level more seen since the beginning of June. This figure could soar to 35,000 new contaminations in early August in the absence of efforts to limit the circulation of the virus, according to a recent model from the Institut Pasteur.

As for the incidence rate of the virus (number of people tested positive per 100,000 inhabitants), it has already more than doubled between the end of June and currently, to 37.4 (against 15 per 100,000).
