Women in the French army: a goal of parity?

Published on :

With few exceptions, women have long been excluded from the field of war and defense. Today, they are present in most of the world’s armies. With 15% of the workforce, France is one of the most feminized armies on the planet, alongside the United States, Israel and Hungary.

With its “mixed plan”, launched in 2019, the French government wants to go further in terms of gender parity in the army. Why ? How? ‘Or’ What ? What resistance is encountered in this very conservative environment? To what extent is sexual harassment punished in this institution nicknamed the “Grande Muette”?

This is the theme of this special issue of Actuelles. Find our reports with the medical regiment of La Valbonne in the Ain (the most mixed of the Army), at the military school of Saint-Cyr as well as an interview with Rear Admiral Anne de Mazieux, Director of the “mixed plan” within the military institution.
