Taiwan, visit by US senators: China deploys naval and air forces

Beijing announces a joint patrol with naval and air forces near Taiwan, while a US Senate delegation is visiting. The United States “sends the wrong signals to the independence forces in Taipei”, reads a note. While the Chinese Foreign Ministry reiterates the “firm opposition” to any official exchange between Taiwan and the United States. Meanwhile, the United States takes a stand and they stress that they will do everything possible to ensure that an invasion of Taiwan by China “can never happen”.
