The White House is currently considering sending a high-ranking official to visit Kiev so that the United States can show support for Ukraine. On the night of Thursday, the Politico portal informed about it, to which unnamed American officials provided this information. Among the candidates who could visit Kiev are US President Joe Biden himself and US Vice President Kamala Harris. However, it is much more likely that either US Secretary of State Antony Blinken or Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin will travel to Ukraine, unnamed US officials said. Politico recalls that both Biden and Harris recently visited Poland – a member of the North Atlantic Alliance, which borders Ukraine. If the White House decides to send someone to Kiev, it is certain that it will not inform in advance for security reasons. In the end, the visit may not even take place due to the rapidly changing situation in connection with the war in Ukraine, US officials warn. According to the Politico portal, the trip of the high-ranking American representative to Kiev would be very symbolic for both Washington and Kiev. The United States would reaffirm its commitment to Ukraine resisting the Russian invasion, and Kiev would host an important US official just weeks after Russian troops were forced to withdraw from areas in Ukraine, Politico said. It also recalls that several European officials have traveled to Kiev to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in recent weeks. Politico mentions, for example, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen or British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The presidents of four countries – Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland – also visited Kiev on Wednesday.
