The Constitutional Council proclaims the final results of the first round The President of the Constitutional Council, Laurent Fabius, officially proclaimed, on Wednesday, the final results of the first round of the presidential election, in a video message posted at the end of the day. They will be published on Thursday in the Official Journal. Pursuant to Article 58 of the Constitution, the Constitutional Council is in fact responsible for ensuring the regularity of the presidential election and for announcing the results. “Since Monday, the Constitutional Council has examined all the census reports transmitted by the State services and we have taken note of the reports of our two thousand delegates. We proceeded to the adjustment of certain results and the rectification of material error, and we examined the protests and complaints which were addressed to us”, declared Mr. Fabius. “In the polling stations where there had been substantial irregularities, few in number, we canceled the votes cast. In total, 2,216 votes were therefore canceled,” continued the president of the institution. The Constitutional Council thus proclaimed an abstention of 26.31% as well as a total of 543,609 blank ballots cast and 247,151 invalid ballots. The final results obtained by the candidates are: Nathalie Artaud (0.56%), Philippe Poutou (0.76%), Anne Hidalgo (1.74%), Nicolas Dupont-Aignan (2.06%), Fabien Roussel ( 2.28%), Jean Lassalle (3.13%), Yannick Jadot (4.63%), Valérie Pécresse (4.78%), Eric Zemmour (7.07%), Jean-Luc Mélenchon (21.95 %), Marine Le Pen (23.15%) and Emmanuel Macron (27.85%).
