Severe hepatitis of unknown origin, affected 3 children in Spain

The Community of Madrid Health Council is investigating three cases of children suffering from severe acute hepatitis of unknown origin, admitted to a Madrid hospital. For one of the children, aged between 2 and 7 years, it was necessary to undergo a liver transplant. Fortunately, the clinical evolution has been favorable for all three. This was reported by the Spanish newspaper ‘El Mundo’, recalling how the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC) launched an alert today on a large number of cases, over 70 of acute hepatitis found in children for a few weeks, launching an appeal for European specialists to be alert to possible cases. In Spain, the babies come from Madrid, Aragon and Castilla-La Mancha.
