Another 900 soldiers of NATO member states could come to Slovakia, specifically from the Czech Republic, Germany, the USA and Slovenia. In total, up to 3,000 soldiers are to operate in the Alliance’s multinational combat group in the Slovak Republic. The government approved an increase in the mandate numbers, which determine the maximum number of troops, on Tuesday. The proposal has yet to be approved by the National Council of the Slovak Republic. “The capabilities of the foreign armed forces will complement the capabilities and capacities of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic and will contribute to increasing the level of deterrence from a possible armed attack,” the Ministry of Defense declared in the material. The number of Czech soldiers is to increase by 100. 500 more members could come from Germany, 200 from the United States. Slovenia could send 100 more soldiers. “Every unit that is to come to Slovakia is tied to some kind of equipment that we have asked for,” explained Minister of Defense Jaroslav Naď (OĽANO). The number of German soldiers is increasing so that they can operate three Patriot batteries together with the Netherlands for a long time. In the case of the US, the increase is also related to the Patriot system.
