Dedoles has problems paying invoices, laying off a large part of its employees and negotiating with potential investors. The Index admitted that massive investments and purchases of goods were designed for higher growth and demand, which, however, cannot be expected during a pandemic and war. The company began to grow rapidly in recent years, building on its own original product design and imaginative marketing. The start of the pandemic, when people shopped a lot online, also helped her. According to the Index, the company became a colossus with more than 500 employees, bought a smaller British company, and started opening its own stone shops. It operates in 21 countries. While in 2018 Dedoles reported sales of 6 mil. in 2020, it already attacked the limit of 50 million euros and a year later revenues exceeded 90 million euros. In an interview with Denník E last February, the owner Jaroslav Chrapko announced that they would like to have 800 to 900 employees by the end of the year. However, not everything worked out perfectly last year. “This year we were boiled in the fact that the unfavorable logistics situation in China caused the late arrival of the summer collection. At the same time, virtually all materials around the world are becoming more expensive, which is taking away from our margins, “Chrapko told Index. Now the company claims that the rapid growth has brought the necessary investments in infrastructure, warehousing and technology, IT systems or brand building, but during the pandemic and the beginning of the war, customer behavior changed.
