What we know about Martine Moïse, the wife of the assassinated president of Haiti

(CNN Spanish) – The first lady of Haiti, Martine Moïse, was injured in the attack in which President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated.

Haiti’s ambassador to the United States, Bocchit Edmond, said arrangements are being made to transfer her to a hospital in Miami for treatment.

Edmond described his condition as stable but critical during a virtual briefing with journalists on Wednesday.

Martine Moïse was born on June 5, 1974 in Port-au-Prince, according to the biography in the Caribbean Community-Caricom Wives of Leaders of the Caribbean Action Network (SCLAN). He studied Interpretation at the University of Quisqueya in the Haitian capital. She is a businesswoman and as first lady she worked under the slogan “Everything for children” for initiatives in favor of children. He also promoted the fight against violence against women.

She is the president of the Fondasyon Klere Ayiti, a foundation that provides services in culture and education to the population. She is also president of the coordination of the Global Fund for the fight against HIV, AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
