Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that French actor Gerard Depardieu did not understand what was happening in Ukraine. Peskov responded to Thursday’s statements by the artist, who in an interview with the AFP agency criticized the “crazy and unacceptable excesses” of Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Depardieu does not understand what happened in Ukraine in 2014 and what is happening there now,” Peskov said, accusing Kiev of bombing civilians in the east of the country. “If necessary, we will be ready to tell him about it and explain so that he can understand it better,” a Kremlin spokesman added. Russian MP Sultan Kamzaev said that the actor should deprive him of Russian citizenship after his statements and hand over his property to the orphans. The French actor, known for his friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and who accepted Russian citizenship in 2013, criticized the Russian military invasion. Depardieu also announced that he would donate the profits from his three planned concerts in Paris to the Ukrainian victims of the “tragic fratricidal war”.
