Corsica placed in orange weather vigilance “snow-ice” from this evening – Corse-Matin

Météo France issued this afternoon a meteorological vigilance of orange level “snow-ice” valid for Haute-Corse as for Corse-du-Sud. The winter episode expected in the next few hours is indeed significant enough to make traffic conditions difficult from this evening, 10 p.m., until tomorrow, Saturday, 4 p.m. at the earliest. At present, low rainfall is recorded on the relief of the island with snow from 900 to 1,000 meters. But, during this night, these “precipitations should gradually strengthen over the west and the central part of Corsica to reach their peak of intensity on Saturday morning, forecasts Météo France. The rain-snow limit should decrease. lower next night to 500 to 600 meters above sea level, temporarily 400 meters under the highest intensities on Saturday morning. Precipitation which should decrease in intensity during the afternoon of Saturday, the rain-snow limit then rising towards 800 to 900 meters. Between this evening and Saturday afternoon, the snow accumulation could reach 2 to 5 cm around 500 meters, 5 to 10 cm locally, 15 cm above 800 meters and between 10 and 20 cm above 1,000 meters altitude. Météo France also warns of the presence of strong gusts of wind that can cause snowdrifts. In these conditions, the prefectures of Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud call for caution.
