Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Smyhal has asked all mayors around the world for humanitarian aid for the people of his country. At the same time, he called on all international partners to support Ukraine’s future reconstruction. The DPA agency informed about it on Saturday.
“I am addressing not only friendly governments, but also mayors of European and other parts of the world,” Šmyhaľ said on Friday evening. “We appeal to you: renew the tradition of twinned towns. Support Ukrainian cities with humanitarian aid and reconstruction funds.”
In mid-March, Smmyha estimated the damage caused by the war to the Ukrainian economy at almost 515 billion euros. According to official Ukrainian estimates, infrastructure damage alone is around € 108 billion, the DPA said, adding that the figures could not yet be independently verified.

Ukraine’s presidential chief Andriy Jermak, meanwhile, has called on the West to set up a new “loan and lease” program for Ukraine, with the United States providing military and material assistance to the Allies during World War II.
Speaking on Friday night, Jermak said Ukraine needed the most real-time intelligence and heavy weapons. He also reiterated Kiev’s call for a no-fly zone to stop Russian bombing and rocket attacks. The West rejects such a possibility for fear of expanding the war, the AP agency said in a report.
