The 27-year-old defender won the Ján Popluhár Award, a Slovak footballer of the 20th century, for the third time in a row. Marek Hamšík, a midfielder and record eight-time poll winner, finished in second place, and Juraj Kucka took third place. 33 experts, leading coaches and media representatives decided on the order in the survey. Among the ten finalists, the winners of the prestigious poll were again exclusively legionnaires. Škriniar also won the fan award, as he received the most votes from the public. Tomáš Suslov from FC Groningen won the Petr Dubovský Award for the best footballer in Slovakia under the age of 21 in the 22nd year of the poll. A year later, Vladimír Weiss Sr. became the best coach again, joking on the podium to his son. “He’s an expert, but I’m glad he’s helping me,” he said. Among the women, DOminika 3korvánková from Montpellier won the award. The results of the 29th year of the survey were solemnly announced on Tuesday at a gala dinner at the X-bionic Hotel in Šamorín. The players of the national team were present at the announcement, as they could receive the prizes in person during the association period before the preparatory matches in Norway and Finland in Spain.
