In the 29th year of the traditional poll of the Slovak Football Association (SFZ), he defended the championships from last year and the year before. The 27-year-old defender won the Ján Popluhár Award, a Slovak footballer of the 20th century, for the third time in a row. Marek Hamšík, a midfielder and record eight-time winner of the poll, who wore IFK Gothenburg and Trabzonspor jerseys last year, finished second. The third place was taken by another midfielder, Juraj Kucka, who transferred from Parma to Watford after the end of last season. 33 experts, leading coaches and media representatives voted on the order in the survey. Among the ten finalists, the winners of the prestigious poll were again exclusively legionnaires. Suslov as the best young man Tomáš Suslov from FC Groningen won the Petr Dubovský Award for the best football player in Slovakia under the age of 21 in the 22nd year of the poll. The 19-year-old offensive midfielder succeeded in the final in the competition of Jakub Kadák from AS Trenčín, replacing last year’s winner Dávid Strelec and became the eighteenth winner of the poll in this category. The players of the national team were present at the announcement, as they could receive the prizes in person during the association period before the preparatory matches in Norway and Finland in Spain. Škriniar, a former player of Žilina or Sampdorie Janov, is only the fourteenth football player to be on the list of winners. After Dušan Tittel and Marek Hamšík, he became only the third man to receive the so-called “pure hetrik”, so he dominated it three times in a row. Martin Škrtel has one more triumph, he was looking forward to 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012. He scored 49 points more than the second Hamšík and 125 points more than the third Kuck. The 57-year-old coach of the Bratislava Slavs has been the coach of the year for the fourth time in his career. He scored the first two triumphs as the head coach of Slovakia, a year ago he celebrated success for working on the bench of Georgia. Michal Gašparík from Trnava finished second with only three points and Pavol Staňo, a former coach of MŠK Žilina (23 points), was third.
