Info or Intox 2022: deconstructing false information with high school students

Published on: 03/21/2022 – 6:20 p.m. While press and media week is being held from March 21 to 26 in schools, the France 24 Observers team set out to meet a second class at Lycée Paul Valéry, in Paris, in order to answer students’ questions about disinformation and to exchange advice with them on how to disentangle the true from the false. In partnership with the Center for Media and Information Education (Clemi), our report retraces this experience, at the end of which the students themselves produced an episode of our program “Info or Intox”. At the end of five sessions, the students were introduced to fact-checking based on intoxes that they had identified themselves. The theme of the Covid, around which massive false information circulates, caught their attention, and in particular videos on TikTok or Facebook claiming that the Covid self-tests would react positively to water. They were able to dismantle this assertion with the support of a virologist.
