2021 hot dog contest: Joey Chestnut wins the championship for the fourteenth time

(CNN) – The defending world champion of the title Joey chestnut broke his own world record this Sunday, gobbling up 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes during Nathan’s famous international hot dog eating contest.

It was the fourteenth time the world’s best hot dog eater won the title in the past 15 years. Chestnut ate 26 more hot dogs than Geoffrey Esper, who came in second, and one more than Chestnut himself ate last year.

On the side of women, Michelle lesco, ninth overall, she won her first championship after consuming 30 hot dogs 3/4 more buns than runner-up Sarah Rodriguez.

Miko sudo, the seven-time defending champion, did not compete this year as she is expecting her first child later this month. Sudo set the record for women in 2020 when she ate 48.5 hot dogs and buns.

The annual July 4 event was held in front of spectators in Coney Island.

Last year’s contest was held in a private media venue only due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Nathan’s legendThe first contest of its kind was held on July 4, 1916, when four immigrants competed to show how patriotic they were by eating hot dogs at Nathan’s stand in Coney Island.

The contest has only been recorded since 1972.
