McKinsey: Emmanuel Macron summoned to “account” – The HuffPost

POLITICS – An explosive report published the day Emmanuel Macron gives his big campaign press conference. This Thursday, March 17, a Senate commission of inquiry which looked into the (controversial) influence of consulting firms within the public authorities accuses the company McKinsey (whose links with the government have been controversial) of ‘Tax optimization. “The McKinsey firm is subject to corporation tax (IS) in France but its payments have been zero euros for at least 10 years”, denounce the senators, recalling that the consulting firm has nevertheless achieved a figure of business of 329 million euros in France for the 2020 financial year alone, “including around 5% in the public sector”. Result, “it seems that this is a caricatural example of tax optimization”, accuses the Senate, while Karim Tadjeddine, head of McKinsey’s public sector and adviser on Emmanuel Macron’s campaign in 2017, had sworn before the members of the commission that the company had paid corporate tax in France. False statements for which the Senate intends to take legal action, since the person concerned was speaking under oath and that false testimony before the national representation is punishable by five years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros. “Macronie prefers to send your taxes to Delaware” Unsurprisingly, these revelations provoke strong political reactions, insofar as the government has often been accused of giving too much space to these private firms to support its decisions. “Emmanuel Macron must explain the massive recourse of the State to the McKinsey company, which the Senate reveals that it does not pay its taxes in France. How could he not know it?”, Tackle Valérie Pécresse in a tweet, judging that the head of state is under an obligation to “account” after this report. “This is how you dismantle the state and the public service. Not only has the government paid millions of euros in consulting orders to McKinsey, but it is also a tax evader!”, added Delphine Batho, spokesperson for the environmental candidate Yannick Jadot, on the same social network. Same story on the side of the Insoumis François Ruffin. “The consultancy got €10.8m from the government in 2020 alone. They should be taken to court. Macronie prefers to send your taxes to Delaware”, tweeted the Picard elected official. On the other side of the political spectrum, on the far right, the criticism is just as strong. “Between his dubious benefits, his close ties with Macronie and his tax optimization, this is yet another state scandal”, accuses the interim president of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella. The first revelations on the subject date from January 2021, when the Politico site reported on the role of the American cabinet in the implementation of the vaccine strategy in France. While the subject comes up regularly in the debate, Jean Castex had published a circular in mid-January to regulate the use of “intellectual services” and reduce consulting expenses by 15% for the year 2022.
