The acceleration of the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan raises fears of a real setback for the rights of Afghan women. Several of them told France 24 their fears about the deterioration of security and the prospect of a return of the Taliban to power.
As the Taliban are galvanized by the impending withdrawal of foreign forces, Afghan women prepare to face a difficult time. Director of a clinic in Kabul, gynecologist Najmussama Shefajo says that the deterioration of the security situation is already having a negative impact on women’s health.
“As long as the security situation is not good, I think that no one will want to come here to support us financially, (…) the Taliban do not care about women at all,” says the doctor.
On the business side, the return of the Taliban could mean the ban for women and men to work together. ATR Consulting therefore gives computers and Internet subscriptions to women so that they can continue to work from their homes.
