Poland will make available to Ukraine all its MiG-29 fighters: It urges others to do the same – New Time

Poland has stated that it is ready to move all its MiG-29 fighters “immediately and free of charge” to the Ramstein base in Germany and make them “available” to the US government. She will most likely hand them over to the Ukrainian Air Force immediately. Ukraine has been demanding aircraft from the West practically since the beginning of the war. More than a week ago, it looked like it had reached an agreement whereby the European Union would supply it with used fighters of the types used by Ukrainian pilots. This would result in lengthy retraining for new aircraft. The most promising were deliveries from Poland, which uses almost three dozen MiG-29 fighters. Poland does the necessary maintenance on it itself, so they are in relatively good condition. Ukraine has even announced that its pilots have already left for Poland to take over the planes. But then the negotiations stalled. Poland has said it needs aircraft for its own defense and has also expressed concern that Russia could retaliate in the event of such significant supplies to Ukraine. Apparently both issues have been resolved. Warsaw is asking Washington to supply it with aircraft of similar parameters. These would be used F-16 fighters, which Poland already uses in addition to MiGs. Poland will not hand over its aircraft directly to Ukraine, but will make them available to the USA. The US confirmed this weekend that it is working on such an agreement with our northern neighbors. The Polish government has now called on other NATO allies, who also own MiG-29 fighters, to do the same. This applies to Slovakia and Bulgaria, no one else has such aircraft in the alliance.
