Gran Turismo 7 is coming to PS5, with very few electric cars

After a long wait, Gran Turismo 7 is officially born. The recipe is similar, and still lighter in electric cars.

Two days before Christmas in 1997, Polyphony Digital opened a new chapter in the history of video games by unveiling Gran Turismo. Considered one of the very first car simulations, the game quickly met with success. This year, the title returns with Gran Turismo 7, which offers the minimum of electrics.

If the title therefore retains its fundamentals, it is a little interested in electric. It is also one of them, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, which opens the video presentation of the game after an ode to the car of more than three minutes. But electric car enthusiasts (who won’t buy the game for that) will remain unsatisfied.

Gran Turismo 7 puts the main emphasis on the Vision GTs

And in particular Tesla aficionados, who will only be able to take control of the Model S Signature Performance, one of the first dynamic iterations of the electric sedan, launched ten years ago. Still in the production car section, there is an improbable BMW i3 of 2015 and a more logical Porsche Taycan Turbo S.

But it is particularly with the prototypes and the Vision Gran Turismo that the electric arrives in the game, with the Jaguar Vision GT Coupethe Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision GT, the Audi e-Tron Vision GT and one of the latest, the Porsche Vision GT. The Nike ONE 2022, no more real, is also in the game, just like the Hyundai N 2025 Vision GTwhich highlights hydrogen.

Available for PS5 and PS4, the game is displayed between €62 and €75 depending on the retailer. The garage of available cars will expand with updates. Other new electrics could see the light of day, in particular in the Tesla catalog with the Model 3 Performance and the second-generation Roadster.

Author’s opinion

The growing electrification of the automotive landscape will inevitably lead in its wake to a change in approaches in several sectors. If it is still too much to imagine if the blond heads will make “bzz bzz” by playing with their electric miniatures in the future, Polyphony Digital proves to us that the road is in fact… Still long.

With its seventh installment fresher than ever, the franchise remains very attached to its fundamentals and shows a serious lack of modernism. Obviously, we can’t ask him to fill up on electric cars in a game that is just waiting to crack sound bars or home theaters. But a thicker catalog of current electrics would have been nice.

Especially since this reduced selection will probably not change the minds of current or future generations of enthusiasts (you think it’s thanks to which game that I became passionate about cars?). Because in the current state of the garage, the electric ones are either untouchable sedans (a Model S Signature that nobody knows, or an overpriced Taycan), or winded machines for a simulation (take a day off to do a lap of the Nurb’ in i3), or track racers straight from the world of science fiction, with the Vision GTs of manufacturers who wanted to play the game of the program.

But let’s be reassured: this new opus does not break the house with its list of cars, and many thermal novelties are missing: the latest McLaren 720S, Aston Martin Vantage, Ferrari SF90 or Porsche 992 (we are pearling still from the latest iteration of the most famous sports car) are not referenced…
