(Reuters) – The Chilean soccer team admitted on Sunday a breach of sanitary regulations that the delegation participating in the Copa América in Brazil had to comply with and said those involved will be financially sanctioned.

After hours of speculation on social networks and the media, the Football Federation and the “Red”, as the local team is known, issued a brief statement explaining the situation, but without pointing out those responsible.

The breach was caused by “the unauthorized entry of a hairdresser who, despite having a negative PCR test, should not have come into contact with the players,” the statement said.

“We regret what caused this situation and we inform that all the members of the delegation tested negative PCR this Saturday, June 19,” he added.

The media have singled out Inter Milan star Arturo Vidal and defender Gary Medel among those eventually involved.

The Chilean team will face Uruguay on Monday in the group stage of the continental tournament.
