KOŠICE. The crisis staff of the city of Košice, which met on Saturday night, dealt with the procedure for admitting Ukrainian refugees to emergency accommodation facilities in the city.

“We need to coordinate all our actions at several levels, so I also asked the mayors to help identify suitable locations for a temporary tent town for people fleeing the war, the vast majority of which are mothers with young children,” the mayor said. Jaroslav Polaček.

“In cooperation with the state authorities, we are ready to ensure that our city becomes a logistics and humanitarian center for Ukrainians who could not stay in their homeland,” he said.

The head of the crisis management department, Peter Ferjenčík, announced that as of Saturday, the city can provide accommodation in the facilities of city enterprises and city districts for 317 people and in schools after equipping with loungers, beds, sleeping bags and blankets for 4126 people.

If necessary, the city has an area of 28,000 square meters for a tent town and can provide food for guests for the necessary time.

Members decide on the money

“City capacities need to be retrofitted. We need to provide enough loungers, beds, sleeping bags and blankets for guests. That is why I am calling the members of the city council for its extraordinary meeting so that we can decide together on the necessary steps for the next period,” the mayor said.

An extraordinary meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 2.

The main topic will be the allocation of funds to ensure the stay of refugees and charities.

“We feel belonging and feel equally morally co-responsible to take care of the people who have had to make the most difficult decision of their lives. “City police patrols in the city center and at important transport hubs,” said Polaček.

City police are assisted by city police officers.
