Poland will not compete against Russia in the March semifinals of the promotion to the World Cup. The president of the Polish Football Federation (PZPN), Cezary Kulesza, informed about it on Saturday.

“No more words, it’s time to act!” Kulesza wrote on his Twitter profile in a post shared by the federation, and shortly afterwards Robert Lewandowski and Kamil Glik added the same message.

“In connection with the escalation of the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine, the Polish national team is not going to play a playoff match with Russia. This is the only right decision, “the statement said.

Two days ago, Poland demanded that the International Football Federation (FIFA) move the match, which was scheduled for March 24, from Russia to neutral ground. However, FIFA did not comply with them at first.

“FIFA condemns the use of Russian force in Ukraine and any kind of violence to resolve conflicts. With regard to football matters in Ukraine and Russia, FIFA will continue to monitor the situation and will announce updates regarding the World Cup qualifiers in a timely manner, ”the DPA quoted the umbrella organization as saying.

The Czech Republic and Sweden, which could meet in the final of the playoffs with Russia, also demanded the transfer of the match from the country. Kulesza announced that he was negotiating with Czech and Swedish officials to present FIFA’s “common position”.
