War in Ukraine: Slovak government declares emergency – SME – SME.sk

BRATISLAVA. An extraordinary situation will occur in Slovakia from 12.00 on Saturday. The declaration of an emergency situation is related to the mass influx of foreigners into the territory of the Slovak Republic before war in Ukraine. The government decided on this at Saturday’s meeting.

“The aim of the declaration of an emergency situation is to create the conditions for taking the necessary measures to prevent and mitigate the consequences of an emergency in connection with the mass influx of foreigners into the territory of the Slovak Republic,” the government cabinet said in the material.

Members of the government and chairmen of other central state administration bodies should take civil protection measures for the population. They should also take crisis management measures to avoid endangering life, health and property.

At the same time, the government authorized the prime minister Eduard Heger and as the Deputy Minister of the Interior and Chairman of the Central Crisis Staff of the Slovak Republic Romana Mikulca (both OĽANO). They are to manage rescue operations, issue rescue orders and implement crisis management measures.

The government has also decided to donate 2.6 million euros of military equipment to Ukraine. From the state material reserves, Slovakia will help Ukraine with material worth 8.405 million euros.

“Ukraine has asked the Slovak Republic to donate the material. The Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic to donate to Ukraine military equipment worth 2.6 million euros and material owned by the State Material Reserves of the Slovak Republic worth 8.405 million euros, “the resolution said.

Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OĽaNO) emphasized that there was no reason to panic and worry. “The declaration of an emergency is the lowest possible situation. It is only for the state authorities to be able to coordinate with each other in connection with the arrival of Ukrainians on our territory, “he explained.
