“In the current context, the President of the Republic nevertheless wanted to be alongside farmers and respect this republican tradition by opening the agricultural fair”, underlined the Elysée.

From a government source, Emmanuel Macron, who had spent twelve hours at the show in 2020 (last year’s edition has been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic), should arrive around 7 a.m. before quickly slipping away. It will be up to Prime Minister Jean Castex this year to do “the stroll and the visit to the stands”, according to the Elysée.

An unmissable event in a presidential campaign, the Agricultural Show was envisaged, according to sources within the majority, as one of the possible launching pads for the candidacy of Emmanuel Macron, who has still not not officially announced his intention to seek a new mandate at the Élysée.
