They are fleeing from Russian aggression! The mayor of Veľké Slemence: Over a thousand people crossed the border, others are waiting – NEW TIME

This was stated for TASR on Friday by the mayor Ľudovít Tóth. “Perhaps 1,000 or 2,000 people crossed the border on Friday,” the mayor estimated. He described the situation as serious, but according to him, people crossing the Slovak-Ukrainian border do not yet need the help of the local government. Relatives and acquaintances from various countries are waiting for the visitors in the village, according to Tóth, for example from Poland, Hungary or England.

The municipality is able, if necessary, to help people coming from the territory of Ukraine by providing temporary accommodation. He can create space for 40 to 50 people in a primary school and a municipal office. “The deputies of the municipality have to decide on it, but I don’t think it will be a problem,” Tóth added, adding that they are still managing the situation in terms of transport.

The Veľké Slemence border crossing is intended for pedestrians only. It is open 24 hours a day until Friday.
