Lady Diana, the princess-icon today would have turned 60

60 years of Lady Diana. Today the princess, who died on August 31, 1997, would have blown out 60 candles. The date takes on a particular meaning, given the complex moment that the Royal Family is experiencing and given the tension between Lady D’s 2 children, William and Harry. For everyone, Diana was an undisputed icon of elegance. Some called her ‘the people’s princess’, others preferred to use the expression ‘the sad princess’. After all, the English tabloids made their success of her fairytale wedding with Charles of England, which soon ended in shatters, while the most famous fashion houses challenged each other to dress her. Lady Diana Spencer, one of the most charismatic and beloved women of the last century, would have turned 55 today, had it not been for that tragic accident in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris, in which she lost her life together with her partner Dodi Al -Fayed, August 31, 1997. She was then only 36. Adored by her subjects and never forgotten, Lady D, as she was affectionately renamed, was born in Sandringham on July 1, 1961, the fourth of five children of the Viscount and Viscountess Althorp, one of the oldest and most important British families, closely connected with the Royal Family for several generations. Former dance teacher, to change the course of her life forever was the meeting, in 1977 with Prince Charles, whom she met during a hunting trip. The two married on 29 July 1981 in St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, in what is still remembered today as ‘the wedding of the century’, which was followed by the birth of two sons William and Harry.
