The unprecedented armed conflict and invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation needs to be adequately addressed. Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OĽANO) said this before the start of the extraordinary summit of European Union (EU) leaders in Brussels, which is to decide on sanctions against the regime in Russia, which attacked Ukraine in the early morning hours.

“Our position is clear. Imposing the toughest sanctions right from the start and then, if necessary, removing them. “ he said. He added that he had a clear idea of the sanctions against Moscow, but that they would be the subject of evening talks by EU officials. “It simply came to our notice then. The dimension of the protection of human lives is the highest and in this spirit the sanctions must be adopted. Today, it is no longer about tactics, but about stopping the armed invasion and establishing peace, “the prime minister said.

Heger clarified that the attitude of EU leaders towards the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin is also clear. “The attack on Ukraine is an unprecedented act. We must not allow Russian federalism, we do not want to go back to the Iron Curtain. We must not allow any further aggression, “he emphasized.

The president supports the defense agreement with the USA, she does not see a conflict with the constitution.

The Prime Minister added that the Slovak government will discuss the approval of a humanitarian aid package for Ukraine on Friday. “We know they will need food, fuel and medical supplies. We can provide all this in a coordinated way, “ he said. He recalled that the EU is a large community that should have no problem providing sufficient humanitarian aid.
