In Prague, thousands of people protested against the war in Ukraine

Updated at 18:00

Hundreds of people gathered in Bratislava in front of the Presidential Palace, from where they marched to the Ukrainian embassy. They express their support for our war-torn eastern neighbors.

Russia began an invasion of Ukraine at five in the morning, and explosions were heard in cities just a few kilometers from Slovakia. Putin’s army has now also arrived in Kiev and is in danger of being captured by the country’s leadership. Slovaks are also watching the tense situation in our eastern neighbors. Yesterday, they decided to express their support for the Ukrainians by silent protests in front of the Embassy of the Russian Federation.

“We wanted to express that Slovakia also has people who care about peace and freedom. We perceive the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine as a threat to our sovereignty. We also wanted to express solidarity with Ukraine.” said one of the organizers Majo Kulich. Several artists also took part in the protest, including Richard Stanke, who read a letter from Ľudmila Verbická from the Ukrainian-Slovak initiative.
