POLITICS – We know more about the dog Douglas, who is actually called Clovis, who joined the Republicans before the LR Congress. The animal, which has caused the hilarity of social networksbelongs to a close collaborator of the deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes (and incidentally finalist candidate of this internal election) Éric Ciotti.

This Thursday, February 24, the day after an investigation excavation published by Release about fictitious members listed on the file of the right-wing party, Mediapart reveals that this red-haired activist is mastered by Antoine de Chemellier, assistant to Eric Ciotti. “I then took my collaborator between four eyes, he told me that he had been made a joke. I’m furious ”, testifies to the site the elected Provençal. According to the investigation site, the animal was added during a “pot between friends” by another parliamentary collaborator, Jean-Baptiste Doat, who works with the president of the LR group in the Senate Bruno Retailleau.

“The membership system was not very serious”

This joker went so far as to pay the 30 euros necessary to validate the registration of Clovis, alias “Douglas” (Release had changed the name to protect the owner, Ed). “We knew that the membership system was not very serious”, justified Jean-Baptiste Doat to Mediapart, denying any fraudulent intention or desire to tip the vote in favor of Éric Ciotti. Moreover, the dog, which appears under the name of “Clovis de Chemellier” in the file of LR members, did not take part in the ballot. Justifications which, of course, only engage their authors.

Asked about the subject on Wednesday evening, Valérie Pécresse had deplored the place taken by this “hoax” in the political debate. “Do you think that if my opponents had had any doubts, they would not have disputed the results?”, she replied on BFM TV. Anyway, the revelations of Release cast doubt on the conditions under which the number of members of the Republicans party soared before the Congress.

Denouncing an “attempt to destabilize”, Les Républicains said in a press release that they were going to file a complaint against the daily.
