Making peace is a priority

Slovak freedom and sovereignty are protected by NATO and European Union allies in a tense situation in relation to Ukraine. It is in Slovakia’s interest to be an integral part of a union in which its members guarantee each other security, Čaputová declared and called for peace. “Our freedom and sovereignty is protected by our allies,” she concluded.

The hopes of those who thought the Kremlin would be satisfied with occupying parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions became an illusion, the president said. The President stated that all the victims of the war in Ukraine would be the victims of President Putin and would bear full responsibility in the face of the world community.

According to Čaputová, Ukraine now has a full right to defend itself. “Defending one’s right to exist as a state and deciding freely one’s destiny. We ourselves would not have done otherwise in such a situation. The Slovak Republic strongly condemns the Russian aggression and stands by the suffering Ukrainian people, “she said.

“Making peace is an absolute priority. The situation we are experiencing today is a cause for vigilance, because the security situation in Europe has changed dramatically since tonight, “the president said.

Let’s be in solidarity and lock ourselves in

It can be assumed that the Russian aggression will expel many of its inhabitants from Ukraine, the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic and the Police will therefore ensure a controlled crossing of the border, the Prime Minister said. Eduard Heger.

“Everywhere in the world there is an armed conflict associated with the suffering and movement of those who flee from it. It can be almost certainly assumed that the Russian aggression will expel many Ukrainians and Ukrainians from the country. Please have compassion and understanding for them, “Heger said.

According to him, those who flee the war deserve our help. The Slovak Republic will responsibly comply with the principles of humanity and solidarity.

“Exactly as others did when our parents or grandparents fled the war and the invasion of our country. At the same time, I want to assure you that our armed forces and police will ensure controlled border crossings and people fleeing the war in this exceptional situation. “We will be given the necessary background. Please, let us keep calm and cool in this difficult situation. Let us not be provoked. Let us not succumb to misinformation and become silent. For our security and for peace in Ukraine and Europe,” Heger said.

“There are no borders today,” the prime minister said. Heger talks about establishing peace and the ability to stand up and say no to military conflict.

Ukraine is helping us to open our eyes

Slovakia interpreted Russia for the situation in Ukraine sharp protest, announced the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Korčok (SaS nominee), saying that in the morning they summoned the Russian ambassador, to whom they announced such an opinion.

Korčok will request an Article 4 consultation at a special NATO meeting. The European Union is also announcing the preparation of further sanctions against Russia.

Ukraine is helping us to open our eyes, Korchok assesses the situation in terms of misinformation. The minister also announced the submission of a proposal for humanitarian aid to Ukraine at Friday’s extraordinary government meeting.

Evacuation from Ukraine is not feasible for the closed airspace, the minister said. “The moment any loophole opens to help the citizens of Slovakia who are in Ukraine, we will do so. This is not possible at the moment, “said the minister, noting that the Slovak embassy remained open in Ukraine.

We do not expect an attack on Slovakia

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď considers it unlikely that Russia would invade Slovakia. The Minister assumes that we are part of NATO and that Russia will not allow itself to attack a member country of the alliance. Nevertheless, the government is preparing for all possible scenarios.

The eastern border with Ukraine should be strengthened militarily, advises Nad (OĽANO), noting that the increased number of troops will be related to police assistance for the time being. The soldiers will primarily control a possible wave of migration.

NATO considers it necessary to strengthen the military in the eastern regions, including Slovakia. He does not yet know exactly how big a NATO military unit could come. However, according to him, it would be several hundred soldiers.

“The unit should be composed of countries geographically close to Slovakia,” he said, adding that NATO troops should increase our defenses.

In addition to the Security Council, there was also an extraordinary meeting of the government, where we approved a resolution at the request of the Police Force. We have set aside up to 1,500 members of the Armed Forces deployed to control the eastern border, “said Naď. The measure is to apply until December 31, 2022.

The minister said that the police ensure normal operation at the border crossings with Ukraine. “Based on the increased influx of people from Ukraine to Slovakia, we are ready to increase the number of border crossings by so-called hotspots. Here, soldiers will help so that we can identify incoming people and guide them,” he said.

He has ruled out mobilization and does not even envisage calling in troops from the reserves at the moment. “We have enough members of the Armed Forces to handle the tasks assigned to us at the moment,” the minister said, fearing mobilization.
