The Ukrainian parliament has approved a state of emergency: what is changing for the people of the country? – NEW TIME

The Ukrainian parliament approved a nationwide state of emergency on Wednesday in connection with the threat of an attack by Russia. It will run from midnight on Wednesday to Thursday local time (23.00 CET) and will last for 30 days. TASR informs based on the report of the AP.

Parliament thus voted to remove the decree of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenský, thus allowing a state of emergency to be declared. 335 deputies voted in favor of the decree, 226 votes were required for approval.

The state of emergency allows the authorities to restrict movement or ban demonstrations “in the interests of national security and public order” and, where appropriate, to introduce further restrictions.

The state of emergency will be introduced from midnight on the whole territory of Ukraine, except for the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, in which it has been in force since 2014.

In Ukraine, it is possible to declare a state of emergency for 30 days and in some areas for up to 60 days. If necessary, the state of emergency can be extended by a maximum of 30 days later by the Ukrainian president, writes Ukrinform.
