Only a few days left to register on the electoral lists: what you need to know

The deadline for online registration is March 2, and until March 4 if you go to the town hall directly.

The first round of the presidential election has been set for April 10, and if you haven’t yet registered on the electoral lists, you only have a few days left to do so.

“For the presidential election, the deadline for registration on the electoral lists is set for Wednesday March 2, 2022 online and Friday March 4, 2022 at the town hall”, explains the Ministry of the Interior.

· Where and how to register?

Online registration is done at a service-public.fr page. All you have to do is register (if you haven’t already), then fill out a form and attach proof of your identity and address. It is indeed necessary to prove to have a link with the municipality in which one asks to vote.

“It is also possible to register on the electoral lists of your municipality by going to the town hall”, adds the ministry. “You will need to provide proof of identity, proof of address and a cerfa form n°12669 for registration which is available at the town hall.”

“If you are staying with a relative (relative for example) or a friend, you can be registered in the municipality where you are staying”, specifies the ministry. And “if you are homeless, or fairground, or travellers, you can be registered in the municipality of the organization where you have taken up residence.”

· Who can vote?

Of course, only people aged 18 and over, and who enjoy all their civic rights, can register.

You must also have French nationality to vote in the presidential and legislative elections of this year 2022, unlike the municipal and European elections, where European citizens residing in France can also vote.

· How to verify that I am registered?

Persons reaching the age of majority are automatically registered on the list of the municipality in which they were enumerated. If you still want to check that you are registered, it is possible to check on the page “Ask about your electoral situation“.

For French people living abroad, the terms and conditions for being attached to a municipality are specified on the website of the Ministry of the Interior.

In the event of a problem in the process, the ministry advises to contact its town hall.
