The Minister of the Interior of Paraguay is dismissed after complaints of alleged links with an alleged drug trafficker

(CNN Spanish) — The president of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, dismissed the Minister of the Interior, Arnaldo Giuzzio, on Tuesday, according to a press conference.

“I have come to communicate that the president has made the decision to change the interior minister. The decision is based on the deep conviction of safeguarding the legitimacy of the Ministry”, informed the head of the Cabinet of the Presidency, Hernán Hutteman.

Giuzzio’s dismissal comes after journalistic complaints about alleged links with an alleged drug trafficker in Brazil were known.

The now former minister acknowledged this Tuesday on his Twitter account that he rented an armored van from him during his vacation in Brazil. Giuzzio clarified that they had contact on more than one occasion, but “always about the services of his company.”

Hutteman confirmed that Giuzzio will be replaced by the advisor to the Presidency on Strategic Affairs, Federico González, who will take office tomorrow, Wednesday.
