Bill Cosby set free after guilty verdict overturned

(CNN) – The Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned Bill Cosby’s conviction and sentence, according to spokeswoman Stacey Witalec for the Pennsylvania Courts.

The majority opinion indicated that “Cosby’s convictions and judgment are set aside and he is released,” Witalec told CNN while reading the majority opinion.

The court was divided in its sentence with 4 votes in favor, 2 parts in favor, part not in favor, and 1 that presented a total dissent.

The Pennsylvania State Attorney’s Office cannot appeal the decision.

When asked if Cosby can be released from prison today, Witalec referred him to the department of prisons.

Cosby was sentenced in 2018 to 10 years in state prison for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at her home 14 years ago.
