Like last year, if not worse, the 2022 “Slam Dunk Contest” will clearly not have left an unforgettable memory for its spectators and viewers. In the image, finally, of this whole evening of contests, quite uncomfortable…

Jalen Green’s last stint threw a chill at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. But, for his second attempt, the back of the Rockets catches up somewhat, probably placing his final dunk, on his second try: a “rider” at 360°, for a score of 45!

Then comes the turn of Cole Anthony, who fails to validate the slightest dunk. Worse: the Magic point guard seems to hurt his thumb on one of his three attempts and he gets the minimum score (30)…

Almost guaranteed to be in the final, Juan Toscano-Anderson plays it easy in stride, with a 360° windmill. He inherits a 43 and logically qualifies for the rest of the competition.

As for Obi Toppin, also almost guaranteed to be in the final, he concluded this first round with a kind of overturned “rider”, after he had sent the ball on the board. Sufficient to collect a 46 from the judges, while we will especially regret its too soft finish…

It will therefore be a Toscano-Anderson/Toppin duel to determine the final winner.

Obi Toppin titled almost by default…

In the final, precisely, Juan Toscano-Anderson rushes, slams a “windmill”, but we especially feel that he ran out of juice to finish with his elbow in the circle, like Vince Carter in his time… He thus receives a small 39.

Even if he needs three attempts to hit the mark, Obi Toppin does not need to be asked to take the lead in the contest, thanks to a “rider” with the board, which earns him a 45.

Then it’s a new moment of embarrassment that follows, with a Juan Toscano-Anderson who is not able to achieve the slightest dunk, while he had worn a Jason Richardson jersey on his shoulders … Impossible to him offer something other than a 30, much to the chagrin of Stephen Curry.

Suffice to say that Obi Toppin had a boulevard in front of him before attempting his ultimate dunk, and the Knicks player completes this sad contest with a new “rider”, this time taking support on the board, in full flight! The 47 is amply deserved, just like his victory, at the end of this “Slam Dunk Contest” for the less hideous.

A year after his defeat in the final against Anfernee Simons, Obi Toppin therefore obtains his revenge, although his performance may not remain in the annals.
