In the fight for promotion to the elite eight, they were not enough for the favored team of the USA, led by Mikaela Shiffrin, which is still waiting for the first precious metal in Yenqing. The Americans succeeded 3: 1, a point of honor for the Slovak team Adam Žampa in the last fourth duel.

Slovak quartet composed Rebeka Jančová, Petra HromcováAdam Žampa a Andreas Žampa without its biggest star Petra Vlhová, it had nothing to lose against the Americans. As expected, their opponents started the eight-final fight better, when Shiffrin defeated Jančová by 64 hundredths in the initial parallel race, despite the less favorable red track.

He added a second point for the US River Radamusbecause Andreas Žampa did not finish his ride. After the third race, it was decided on the procedure of the USA – Paula Moltzan was in the finish sovereign by 1.45 s earlier than Hromcová. Adam Žampa then scored a single point for his team, beating Tommy Ford in the blue track by 19 hundred seconds. However, the Americans advanced without any problems, Italy was waiting for them in the quarterfinals.

Andreas Žampa took a risk in his ride and did not finish it. “Rebecca did a fantastic ride against Mikaele Shiffrin and I knew I had to put everything into it. River is a great skier, so I went full speed and I thought it was pretty even. I knew I had to take the risk, unfortunately “I slipped on the inside and fell out. We were kicked again by the hockey players, whom I congratulate on the bronze, and we also put our hearts into it today,” Andreas said in an initial response to RTVS.

In the end, his brother Adam Žampa took care of at least the team’s honorary record: “I knew it was already 0: 3, but I wanted to get at least one point for Slovakia. I focused on the start and then I showed a smooth ride, so we have at least one point, which is better than not having any. We put in “I respect 15th place in the giant slalom and the fact that we figured in it for a while with my brother at the head of the race. Now we are looking forward to the closing ceremony with the hockey players and the way home.”

The competition on the “Rainbow” track, which was complicated by an unpleasant wind, ran in a parallel elimination way from the eight finals and the man-on-man, woman-on-woman system divided four points in each national duel.

With a score of 2: 2, the procedure was decided by a better sum of times in the two fastest in both categories. The gold from Pyongyang was defended by the Swiss, the Slovaks four years ago lost the same in the eight-final first round with Germany. The reigning world champions from Cortina are Norwegians, the Slovak team did not start at the World Championships last year.

Fifteen teams entered the competition, so the highest-ranked Austria directly entered the quarterfinals. The only gold medalist from Beijing’s individual competitions featured in the nominations – the Austrian Johannes Strolz had previously won the alpine combination and won silver in the slalom. The performance of Shiffrin, who did not finish the competition in the position of co-Bavarian for gold (slalom, huge slalom and combination) three times in Beijing, attracted ninth in the super-G and in the 18th place downhill.

The team races were originally scheduled for the games as early as Saturday, but a strong gust of wind forced the International Ski Federation (FIS) and organizers to postpone them to Sunday, the final day of the Beijing Olympics.
