Storms in northern Europe: victims, damage and thousands without light

At least a dozen people died in the wave of bad weather that hit northern Europe yesterday and today with cyclones Zeynap, Dudley and Eunice, while tens of thousands of people were left without electricity. Struck by the strong winds and rains of Eunice, Great Britain claims three deaths. Thousands of homes are without electricity and there are millions of pounds in damage. Strong winds will continue over the next few days with consequences for transport, electricity supply and damage repair. In the Netherlands, the storm caused three deaths from falling trees and a fourth from a road accident. In Germany, at least three have died from cyclone Zeynap. There have been thousands of calls to firefighters for fallen trees, wind blown objects and damage to buildings. Rail traffic has been interrupted several times, with problems on the lines expected until Monday. According to a first estimate by the insurance companies, there are damages of 900 million euros. the forecast foresees strong gusts of wind until Tuesday. In Poland there are three dead, while in the Czech Republic 26,000 homes are without electricity.
