Joe Biden is convinced that Vladimir Putin has already decided to invade Ukraine. Although there is still room for diplomacy, Russia is planning an attack in the coming days, including an attack on Kiev, the US president said.
Russia has been gathering huge numbers of troops at Ukraine’s borders for several weeks and is making security demands on Western countries, but refuses to prepare to attack its neighbor.
“We have reason to believe that Russian troops are preparing to attack Ukraine next week,” Biden said after a phone call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other European Union and NATO officials.
According to the White House, the officials agreed to continue their efforts to resolve the dispute diplomatically, but are ready to adopt economic sanctions against Russia quickly and in a coordinated manner if Moscow decides to conflict. (guardiančtk)
