“Very strong winter storm requiring special vigilance”

Météo France speaks of a “very strong winter storm requiring special vigilance”. This storm, which will affect the north of France from this Friday morning, is called storm Eunice. “The most violent gusts are expected during the afternoon, in Pas-de-Calais and the North with values around 120 to 130 km / h, locally 140 km / h on the coasts; in the indoors they will reach 100 to 120 km/h, locally 130 km/h on the heights”specifies Météo France.

“These stormy winds from West to South-West generate strong waves and a temporary elevation”, adds Meteo France. “In a context of high tidal coefficients, the combination of high sea levels and strong waves risks causing submersion in exposed or vulnerable areas of the coast of the departments placed on wave submersion vigilance”.

Risk of submersion from Etretat to Cap Griz-Nez

According to the prediction models of Ifremer (French institute for research on the sea), the conjunction of violent winds (up to 140 km/h in gusts) and a high tidal coefficient (90 in Boulogne-sur- Wed, this Friday at 1 p.m.) will train an increase in sea level of 3.80m, from Etretat to Cap Griz-Nez. Troughs ranging up to 7 meters in height are expected offshore.
