The Russians warn that Ukraine can start a war if it joins NATO.

MOSCOW. The United States has already received from Russia response to its proposals concerning the negotiations on the security situation around Ukraine and in Europe. An unnamed senior US official told foreign agencies.

According to a copy of a letter quoted by Russian agencies, Moscow reiterates its demands to withdraw the Alliance’s forces from Central and Eastern Europe and reiterates its guarantees that Ukraine will not be allowed to join ONTO. Unless Russia receives binding guarantees, it faces “military-technical measures”.

What are Russia’s requirements

At the end of last year, together with strengthening its military presence on Ukraine’s borders, Moscow imposed security requirements on NATO and the United States, in particular, calling for guarantees that the alliance would not expand further and, above all, accept Ukraine.

Western countries warn that Moscow is preparing for an invasion. Russia denies it.

The United States sent its own proposals to Moscow on January 26 in response. According to earlier information, they demanded the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Crimea, eastern Ukraine, Moldova and the separatist provinces of Georgia.

At the same time, Washington has rejected some of Russia’s basic demands, especially with regard to its right of veto over possible NATO enlargement.

The US and Alliance response to Russia’s security assurances has offered negotiations on concrete ways to increase mutual trust.

Russia is threatening military action

In a Thursday response, Moscow said Russia had no plans to “invade Ukraine.” At the same time, however, she warns again that she will have to take unspecified military measures if the West rejects her proposals.

Russia will be forced to respond, including by implementing measures of a military-technical nature.

Russia in response to the West’s rejection of its demands

“Russia will be forced to respond, including by implementing measures of a military-technical nature,” warns Moscow’s response in the event of the rejection of Russia’s proposals, which takes the form of a 10-page document.

The document, sold to US Ambassador John Sullivan, deplores Russia’s regret that Washington has not responded “constructively” to Russia’s draft security agreement late last year.

According to Moscow, it is unfortunate that the US has not given up further NATO enlargement, nor has it guaranteed that Ukraine and Georgia will not be admitted to the Alliance, nor will it return military capabilities and Alliance infrastructure to 1997, when Russia and NATO signed a basic co-operation agreement. .
