Slovakia is suffering from a strong wind today, meteorologists warn – Pluska.sk

A strong wind has already managed to uproot several trees in our territory. These are a consequent obstacle for drivers on the road. A fallen tree is reported e.g. drivers at the Novoť border crossing. In Žilina, on the way from Ľavobrežná to Teplička nad Váhom, there is a fallen plastic table on the way.

The third level of wind warning in the mountains is valid on Thursdays until 3 pm in the districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Poprad, Liptovský Mikuláš, Ružomberok and Tvrdošín. In gusts, the wind can reach speeds of 160 to 180 kilometers per hour. “The expected wind speed is extremely high at a given time of year and in the area and poses a great danger to human activities (especially for hiking and mountaineering),” notifies SHMÚ.

In the districts of Turčianske Teplice, Martin, Žilina, Dolný Kubín and Námestovo, the second level of warning applies in the mountains. In these areas, the wind can reach a speed of 160 kilometers per hour. It should also blow heavily in the mountains on Friday (February 18) and Saturday (February 19).

Second and first degree wind warnings are issued during the day in most of Slovakia, with the exception of some districts of the Prešov and Košice regions. In the western part of Slovakia, the wind can reach speeds of up to 105 kilometers per hour in gusts. Especially in central and eastern Slovakia it can blow in gusts of up to 85 kilometers per hour.

The passage of the cold front can also be accompanied by storms. “We expect the strongest wind just before and on the front, ie on Thursday around noon and short in the afternoon,” pointed out SHMÚ on the social network. Another pressure lower with the storm is to come to Central Europe from Friday to Saturday. “In the northern part of Central Europe, it will probably be even stronger than today’s, but in our country it should be a bit weaker.” he added.

Do not park under trees in strong winds, secure windows and doors

In strong winds, it is not recommended to park under trees or approach fallen power line wires. Windows and doors should also be closed and secured. The Slovak police recommend it on the social network.

“It’s not even appropriate to walk in a strong wind in the woods and approach the fallen power line wires,” she approached. The recommendations of the crisis management section of the Ministry of the Interior (MV) of the Slovak Republic for citizens show that it is better to put loose objects from the yards and balconies and provide pets.

“If possible, do not drive in open windy areas with light vehicles and unladen trucks.” emphasized. Parking at flimsy buildings is not recommended either.

Slovakia is plagued by strong winds on Thursday, with hurricanes in the mountains of northern Slovakia. Wind gusts can reach speeds of up to 105 kilometers per hour, especially in western Slovakia, and 160 to 180 kilometers per hour in the mountains of northern Slovakia. First- to third-level alerts are issued.
