As promised, Microsoft kicked off the rollout of the first major Windows 11 update in February. We take a look at what’s new.
the Windows 11 launch in October 2021 was a small success, but many users have pointed out the new system’s weaknesses, especially when it removes features from its predecessors for no reason. We think of details such as the absence of a clock on the second screen which could be very painful on a daily basis. A first content update corrects these problems and adds new features. Microsoft has announced the start of its rollout.
What’s new: France misses the main
The main novelty of this update is unfortunately not available in France. This is the addition of the Amazon App Store directly in the Microsoft Store to download and install Android applications. Unable to access the two required apps: the Amazon App Store and Windows Subsystem for Android. Microsoft specifies that these new features are reserved for the United States, once again. The wider rollout will wait”later this year“.
Fortunately, we still have other interesting new features, especially in the taskbar.
Apart from bringing the clock to other connected monitors, the update adds a weather widget to the taskbar that replaces the widget access icon. A simple passage of the mouse over the weather widget brings out the widgets pane. If you are in an audio or video call, particularly for telecommuting, Windows 11 now offers you a microphone icon in the taskbar to ensure that you mute the PC, even if the call window is not not active.

The Windows 11 update also brings two new native apps. First of all the notepad, historical application of the system which has the right to an overhaul of its interface to stick with the design codes of Windows 11. The great novelty, it is especially the multimedia player which replaces Groove Music. It includes the expected functions: playlist management, playback of audio or video files, and recognition of files in a folder.
Start of deployment
If you are on Windows 11, this update is now available for download from Windows Update, without even being a member of the Insider program. Installing the update changes the build number to 22000.527 (accessible from the “winver” tool or in the system settings).
