Austrian skier Johannes Strolz took the lead after the first round of slalom at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. The Olympic champion in alpine combined was two hundredths faster than Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen. Another Norwegian slalom skier, Sebastian Foss-Solevaag, was six hundredths behind.

The Slovak national team member Adam Žampa was in 32nd place after the 1st round with a loss of 3.84 to Strolz. His younger brother Andreas ranked 33rd with a gap of 4.14 per leader.

Adam Žampa completed his first slalom in Beijing after a two-year break, concentrating on the giant slalom due to back problems.

Andreas last performed at the top event at the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyongyang. “It was quite a show. I was worried everywhere, I only train a giant, but if there is a chance to go slalom at the Olympics, you have to go. But it was possible. It was my first slalom ride in the last two years, in the second round it will probably be better, “ Andreas Žampa told TASR.

Starting in No. 19, Strolz showed an aggressive ride with the maximum dose of risk and, although he did not avoid mistakes, he developed a close lead over the Norwegian co-Bavarian duo. Strolz’s compatriot Manuel Feller did not manage the pitfalls of the track, and the Swede Kristoffer Jakobsen did not finish the first round either.
