Several deaths leave rains and landslides in Petrópolis, Brazil

(CNN Spanish) — Several dead and missing people is the balance of the heavy rains that were recorded in the municipality of Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this Tuesday.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Regional Development, Rogerio Marinhoon his Twitter account.

At least 80 landslide points have been recorded, according to Agencia Brasil.

Marinho confirmed that President Jair Bolsonaro, who is in Russia, is aware of the situation and has arranged for resources to be mobilized in favor of the victims.

Brazil Agency reported that the number of fatalities may be higher than that reported by the authorities, since there were many landslides.

A state of public calamity was declared due to the rains, which reached 260 millimeters in six hours, according to Agencia Brasil.

Around 10 pm, the core of rains in the municipality in the last hours had moved away, however the forecast of rains with weak to moderate intensity remains, which keeps the city on alert, reported the state agency of news.
