South Africa: ex-president Jacob Zuma sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of justice

The South African Constitutional Court has delivered its verdict: on Tuesday, June 29, it sentenced former President Jacob Zuma to 15 months in prison for contempt of justice after his refusal to appear before an anti-corruption commission.

The highest court rendered this verdict “by a majority of its members,” said judge Sisi Khampepe. “The Constitutional Court has no other possibility than to conclude that Jacob Zuma is guilty of contempt of justice”, declared the magistrate before the delivery of the sentence.
